Make your home show well at an Open House
Once you've had a professional home stager into your home to make recommendations and/or stage your home prior to showing it, here are some tips to keep your home looking great for the Open House: • Fully Open all window shades & blinds in every room – you want buyers to see the views while inside from every window, and also to let in all the light; you also want the windows to be uncovered so that buyers driving by outside will see an “open, friendly” home • Turn on lights in hallways as well as main light fixtures & lamps in each room • To keep your home smelling fresh, use one of these products every day: Pure Ayre spray or Pure Citrus orange spray (both are safe for people & pets) on carpets, drapes, & upholstered furniture. Cook some cinnamon sticks or vanilla extract in a pot of water on the kitchen stove or microwave. Air out the house as often as possible. Never smoke inside. • Make sure that the kitchen and bathrooms are kept sparkling clean! • Kitchen counters and sink should be cleared off except for a few items that your stager has placed • Kitchen Trash should be removed daily and hidden away out of sight • Dining tables should be left “staged” so that buyers can imagine entertaining there • Cat litter trays should be stored in the garage or outside; put pet food dishes out of sight. Pets should be out of sight of as well during showings. • Make beds daily, standing up all the decorative pillows • Keep bath towels folded in thirds on towel rack (or rolled, if that’s how they were staged) • Keep all bathroom toiletries stored in drawers or cupboards, out of sight • Bathroom wastebaskets should be stored out of sight • Ensure that all toilet seat lids are ALWAYS down • Replace all burned-out light bulbs, inside and outside • Keep all bedroom doors fully open • For family safety, remove family photos & all items with a family member’s name; remove bills, bank statements, & mail; remove all valuables and all prescription medicines • If any music is playing, it should be FM easy-listening or light jazz music (no TVs on)
